# World Train Map > An interactive railway map of the world, working towards every passenger rail service: 1,516 train routes across 120 countries so far. High-speed, classic, night, scenic, heritage and luxury lines, with the facts behind every one. Plus 670 European city-to-city train journey guides. Free, no signup. Every content page is prerendered static HTML — no JavaScript required to read it. Route facts (distance, fastest journey time, top speed, operator, opening year) are approximate published values; city-pair journey times are sampled from public European schedule data. The site does not sell tickets or show live timetables. The whole atlas is also published in German under https://worldtrainmap.com/de/ — every page below has a German twin at the same path with a /de prefix, and the two are paired with hreflang. The German route hooks and stories are machine-translated from this site's own English copy and have not been read by a native speaker; route and place NAMES are read from German Wikipedia and Wikidata rather than translated. Two pages are English only and have no German twin: /privacy/ and /corrections/. And in Japanese under https://worldtrainmap.com/ja/, the same way: every page below has a Japanese twin at the same path with a /ja prefix, paired with hreflang. Route and place NAMES are read from Japanese Wikipedia and Wikidata rather than translated; a route text with no Japanese version is shown in English and marked lang="en". /privacy/ and /corrections/ are English only. ## Route atlas - [All 1516 train routes](https://worldtrainmap.com/routes/): the full index — high-speed, classic, night, scenic and luxury - [The fastest train in every country](https://worldtrainmap.com/fastest-trains/): 104 countries ranked by realized average speed (route length ÷ fastest journey) vs headline top speed — a data story, open data - [The highest railways in the world](https://worldtrainmap.com/highest-railways/): 53 lines ranked by the altitude their track reaches, up to 5,072 m at the Tanggula Pass — a data story, open data - [The longest train journeys in the world](https://worldtrainmap.com/longest-train-journeys/): 110 rides over 1,000 km ranked by distance, up to 9,289 km on the Trans-Siberian — a data story, open data - [International train routes of the world](https://worldtrainmap.com/international-train-routes/): 129 cross-border trains linking 62 countries, ranked by borders crossed (Germany is the most connected, in 35) — a data story, open data - [Train vs plane in Europe](https://worldtrainmap.com/train-vs-plane/): door-to-door times and CO₂e on 109 city pairs — the train is faster on 29 (27%) and emits ~3× less CO₂e even on conservative DESNZ 2025 factors — a data story, open data - [Europe train map](https://worldtrainmap.com/europe-train-map/): 972 routes across the continent - [USA train map](https://worldtrainmap.com/usa-train-map/): Amtrak long-distance routes and scenic railroads - [Night trains](https://worldtrainmap.com/night-trains/): 117 sleeper routes worldwide, with per-city indexes - [The night-train revival](https://worldtrainmap.com/night-train-revival/): 22 sleeper routes launched or revived since 2016 (14 of them in the 2020s) — a data story, open data - [Scenic train routes](https://worldtrainmap.com/scenic-train-routes/): the world's most beautiful railway journeys, by country - [Heritage railways](https://worldtrainmap.com/heritage-railways/): museum, preserved and steam-excursion lines worldwide, by country - [Mountain railways](https://worldtrainmap.com/mountain-railways/): the world's notable rack and cable climbing lines, by country - [Luxury train routes](https://worldtrainmap.com/luxury-train-routes/): the world's great luxury trains — Pullmans, palace trains and rail cruises, by country - [Train routes by country](https://worldtrainmap.com/train-routes/): 91 country pages - [Train operators](https://worldtrainmap.com/operators/): 162 railway companies, what each runs and when it was founded ## Journey guides - [European trains, city to city](https://worldtrainmap.com/trains/): 670 city pairs — typical journey times, direct-train availability, operators ## Machine access - [Sitemap](https://worldtrainmap.com/sitemap.xml): every page on the site — an index of https://worldtrainmap.com/sitemap-en.xml, https://worldtrainmap.com/sitemap-de.xml and https://worldtrainmap.com/sitemap-ja.xml - [MCP server](https://worldtrainmap.com/mcp-server/): connect the atlas to Claude or any MCP client — the endpoint itself is https://worldtrainmap.com/mcp (streamable HTTP JSON-RPC, POST only, no auth; a GET answers 405 by design) - [Changelog feed](https://worldtrainmap.com/corrections/feed.xml): Atom, one entry per dated batch of fixes and changes — what changed in the atlas and who reported it - [Open dataset](https://worldtrainmap.com/dataset/): the atlas as CSV, JSON and GeoJSON, CC BY 4.0 — also on GitHub, Kaggle and Hugging Face; archived at DOI 10.5281/zenodo.21322030
