Ljubljana–Jesenice railway

The Slovenian half of the Rudolf Railway, opened complete on 14 December 1870, up the Sava by Škofja Loka and Kranj to the mouth of the Karawanks tunnel.

Opened in 1870 as part of the Habsburg Rudolfsbahn, this was once a through route from Ljubljana to Tarvisio in Italy. Only the Slovenian half is still open, as the Ljubljana–Jesenice section of the main line towards Villach; the cross-border stretch from Jesenice to Tarvisio closed on the Italian side in 1967 and on the Slovenian side in 1969. Slovenske železnice take about 55 minutes over the 64 km.
