In revenue service they lean through the North Coast line’s curves at 160 km/h, past the Glass House Mountains, Gympie’s hills and endless sugar cane. Eight hours from Roma Street the train eases into Rockhampton, the beef capital sitting on the Tropic of Capricorn.
