Four miles of the Aberdeen Railway’s 1840s line between Brechin’s preserved terminus and Bridge of Dun, worked by volunteers every summer since 1993.
The Aberdeen Railway built its line through Bridge of Dun in the 1840s, with Brechin at the end of a branch. Passenger trains stopped in the early 1950s and British Rail closed it completely in 1981, after which the Brechin Railway Preservation Society relaid the four miles between the two stations and refurbished both. The route on towards Dubton and Kinnaber Junction has since been built over, which makes a return to the main line at Montrose unlikely.
