The Severn & Wye’s line into the Forest of Dean, rebuilt by volunteers: passenger trains since 1991, down to Lydney Junction in 1995 and up through the woods to Parkend.
The Severn and Wye Railway once ran from Lydney up into the Forest of Dean as far as Cinderford. The society that runs its southern end today began steam operations in 1971, bought the trackbed from British Rail in 1986, reached Lydney Junction in 1995 and Parkend in 2005. Trains start beside the main line at Lydney Junction, pass Lydney Town and the railway’s base at Norchard and climb through Whitecroft to Parkend; an extension towards Speech House Road and Cinderford is planned.
