The EC “Sava” restored a direct Zagreb–Ljubljana run, and since June 2025 extends once a week onward to Pula for the first time in 30 years.

The EuroCity “Sava” names its own scenery: from Zagreb the line joins the river at the Slovenian border and barely leaves it, threading the wooded Sava gorge where castle ruins and monastery walls hang above the water. Zidani Most, the junction where the 1849 Austrian Südbahn from Vienna to Trieste meets the Zagreb branch of 1862, remains one of Central Europe’s prettiest railway crossroads. Two and a half unhurried hours between the two capitals of the former Yugoslav north.
