Norfolk’s 15-inch-gauge railway, laid in 1990 on the old East Norfolk trackbed: nine miles from the Broads at Wroxham, over the River Bure and under the A140 by tunnel, to Aylsham.
The East Norfolk Railway’s branch from Wroxham to Aylsham opened in 1880 and lost its passenger trains on 15 September 1952, though freight through Aylsham carried on until 1982. The 15-inch-gauge railway laid on the trackbed in 1990 runs beside a footpath for its whole nine miles, with halts at Coltishall, Buxton and Brampton. Its seventeen bridges include a 105-foot girder span over the River Bure at Buxton, and at Aylsham it passes under the A140 bypass in a tunnel.
