Lahn Valley Railway

The Lahn from Wetzlar down to the Rhine through Weilburg, Limburg, Nassau and the spa at Bad Ems; opened in three pieces and finished on 10 January 1863.

The Lahntalbahn was opened between 1858 and 1863 by the Nassau Rhine and Lahn Railway Company and the Nassau State Railway, which makes it one of the oldest railways in Germany. It runs from Niederlahnstein in Rhineland-Palatinate to Wetzlar in Hesse, following the Lahn valley for part of the way; its western end was originally at Oberlahnstein, and trains today mostly work Koblenz to Gießen.
