Friuli to the Adriatic through Gorizia and out along the Carso above Miramare; the last two sections opened three days apart in October 1860.
Double track electrified at 3,000 V DC across central and eastern Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and classified by RFI as one of its primary lines. Its one interchange is Monfalcone, beside the junction with the Venice–Trieste railway, and from there into Trieste the two lines share the same rails. Trenitalia runs the regional and long-distance trains; the freight belongs to several companies.
