Rolls off Sweden’s West Coast Line and over the 8 km Øresund Bridge, plunging into the Drogden tunnel to reach Copenhagen.

The Öresundståg network exists because of one structure: the 16 km fixed link of 2000, which drops from Europe’s longest cable-stayed bridge onto the artificial island of Peberholm and dives under the Drogden channel into Denmark. The Gothenburg run gathers the Swedish west coast first (Varberg’s fortress, Halmstad’s beaches, Helsingborg facing Hamlet’s Kronborg across the narrows), then Lund’s cathedral city and Malmö before the crossing itself, trains sharing the deck with the motorway above. It made a single commuting region of two countries.
