Stångådalsbanan

Four separate railways stitched into one 235 kilometre run across Småland; the last section opened in 1902, and only since 1996 has the trip been possible without changing trains.

The Stångådalsbanan runs from Linköping to Kalmar, taking in what used to be the Östra centralbanan. It shares its track with the Tjustbanan as far as Bjärka-Säby, where the two part: the Tjust line for Åtvidaberg and Västervik, this one south for Hultsfred and Kalmar. It follows the river Stångån for much of the way, which is where the name comes from; it is standard gauge, unelectrified, and worked by Krösatågen.
