The sleeper is travel's oldest trick: board after dinner, roll through the dark, and step off in a different country before breakfast. This index collects every night train in the World Train Map atlas, from one-night hops to week-long transcontinental runs, each with its distance, published journey duration, operator, rolling stock and the story of the line.

Written off in the 2000s, the night train is back: 22 sleeper routes have launched or returned since 2016. The revival page charts it decade by decade.
