World Train Map — 1500 train routes on one interactive map
An interactive railway map of the world: 1,500 notable train routes across 120 countries. High-speed, classic, night, scenic, heritage and luxury lines, with the facts behind every one.
From the Glacier Express, the Bernina Express and the Trans-Siberian to the Shinkansen, the Eurostar and the California Zephyr: every route is drawn on a fullscreen world map with its distance, fastest journey time, top speed, operator, rolling stock and the year the line opened. Free, no signup. The interactive map needs JavaScript; the index below reaches the same atlas as static pages.

- World Train Map has a Japanese edition, its third after English and German: every page of the atlas under /ja/, with the map, its panel and the route cards in Japanese. Route and place names are taken from Japanese Wikipedia and Wikidata, never made up, and where neither has a Japanese name a route keeps its English one. The descriptions of the routes are machine-translated from the English, as the German ones were. This changelog and the privacy notice stay in English. 2026-09-23
- On an iPhone, Safari now shows the map under its floating toolbar at the foot of the screen and under the clock at the top, where it used to show a strip of plain colour at each end. Nothing moves to make room: the panel, the buttons, the route card and the map’s own controls stand where they stood, and the map is centred on the part of the screen that can be seen, not on the parts under the glass. A tap on the clock, which in Safari scrolls a page to its top, brings the map straight back. Every other browser, and the embeddable map, is unchanged. 2026-09-23
- Also for phones, from the sister atlases: no grey flash when a button is tapped and no rubber band when the map is pulled past its edge, no scroll bar on a route card on a touch screen, no telephone links made out of numbers, and on a phone held on its side the panel, the card and the corner note keep clear of the notch and the home indicator. 2026-09-23
